Ingredients:
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional mix-ins: chocolate chips, chopped nuts, fruit
Instructions:
In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar over medium heat
Stir until sugar is dissolved and mixture is heated through, about 5 minutes
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt
Transfer mixture to a bowl and let it cool completely
Once cooled, cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency, about 20-25 minutes
If desired, add in mix-ins during the last few minutes of churning
Transfer churned ice cream to a container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving
